Creative spaces directory: West Coast region
Creative spaces are community-based arts organisations and groups where people, often with limited access, can go to make art, participate in theatre, dance, music, film and creative writing. Below is a list of creative spaces on the West Coast, or visit the national creative spaces directory.
Please email us to update your entry, include your creative space in this directory, or make enquiries about the Creative Spaces Network.
Art4Me - WestREAP
Address: WestREAP, Reap House 72 Tudor Street, Hokitika 7810
Art4Me is an open access community arts programme for adults. The programme runs weekly in Hokitika, Greymouth, and Blaketown during term time. Participants are given space, opportunity, tutor support, and materials (if needed) to work on creative projects in the medium of their choice, while enjoying the social benefits of creating together in a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment. The programme also encourages ongoing learning and participation in a wide range of community activities, including regular opportunities to exhibit locally, pathways into further learning, and partnerships with other groups and community events.
Over the past two years, Art4Me has also developed Supported Art4Me classes for people with intellectual disabilities. These classes provide a creative and inclusive environment where participants can build confidence, develop communication and social connections, and experience a sense of achievement and belonging. The programme supports independence, encourages participation in the wider community, and ensures that people of all abilities have meaningful access to creative opportunities in a supportive and respectful setting.
